Boîte Nature
A plain, untreated cedar box with a hinged lid — no lacquer, no paper, no decoration.
The boîte nature (French for “natural box”) does without lacquer, paper dressing and ornament: bare wood, a hinged lid, often a simple hook for a clasp. The untreated Spanish cedar buffers humidity and lends its scent to the tobacco — favourable conditions for box ageing. What chiefly sets it apart from the cabinet is the lid: there a sliding top over loosely bundled cigars, here the hinge.
