Arturo Fuente
Arturo Fuente, a Cuban émigré, founded his marca in 1912 in Tampa, Florida — at the time the centre of American cigar manufacturing. What began as a small family business remained precisely that across four generations: to this day the company is entirely family-owned, a rarity at this scale.
The decisive turning point came in 1980, when Carlos Fuente Sr. moved production to Santiago in the Dominican Republic. There the house grew into one of the country’s great manufacturers — with a style built on long ageing and meticulous craftsmanship. The Hemingway series, from the 1980s onwards, revived the rare Cameroon wrapper and the graceful Perfecto shape.
The greatest coup came in 1995: with the Fuente Fuente OpusX the family refuted the old certainty that a high-quality wrapper could not be grown in the Dominican Republic — the first Dominican Puro of this class, grown on the family’s own Finca Chateau de la Fuente. To this day the Fuente name stands as proof that patience and family tradition can set standards in the New World.
