Tobacco beetle
A tiny pest whose larvae bore through cigars — the greatest threat in the humidor.
Tobacco can harbour eggs of the tobacco beetle (Lasioderma serricorne), and above around 20 degrees the risk of hatching rises — the warmer, the more acute; cool storage is therefore the best prevention. Infestation shows itself through small round holes in the wrapper and fine tobacco dust in the humidor. The only remedy is rigorous action: dispose of infested cigars, seal the rest in plastic bags, place them in the freezer for a few days, then slowly return them to room temperature via the refrigerator.
