Spanish cedar
The classic lining wood of the humidor — it buffers moisture and accompanies ageing with its scent.
Botanically, Spanish cedar (Cedrela odorata) is not a cedar at all but a mahogany relative from tropical America. In the humidor the wood absorbs moisture and releases it slowly — buffering fluctuations — and its scent accompanies box ageing pleasantly; it is also said to deter the tobacco beetle. Cigar boxes and cabinets are traditionally made from the same wood, as are the cedar spills used for lighting.
