Sun-grown
Tobacco grown in full sunlight — yielding thicker, darker and stronger leaves than under the shade cloth.
Sun-grown tobacco stands unprotected in full sun: in response, the plant develops thicker, oilier and darker leaves with more strength and spice. The opposite model is shade growing under cloth, the tapado, which produces particularly fine, pale wrappers. Sun-grown wrappers are accordingly darker and more robust, as sought for maduro maturation; in the filler, the sun-exposed upper levels such as ligero supply a blend’s power.
