The short, compact format of around 12.4 cm at ring gauge 50 — today probably the most widely smoked in the world.
The robusto measures 12.4 cm (4⅞ inches) at ring gauge 50 and takes roughly 45 to 60 minutes to smoke — a great deal of cigar in a manageable time, which explains its rise to the standard format of the present day. The thick dimensions allow it to draw coolly and foreground the filler blend. Its elongated cousin is the toro; the slender counterpart is the corona.
