Box ageing
The continued maturation of finished cigars in the sealed box over years.
A cigar’s development does not end with rolling: in the box the moisture of the processed leaves equalises, harsh edges mellow, and the aromas marry into a rounder whole. Many aficionados therefore lay full boxes into the humidor for years before lighting the first cigar. A fine whitish bloom on long-aged cigars is considered a good sign.
