Hygrometer

The instrument for measuring relative humidity inside the humidor.

Whether analogue or digital, a hygrometer is only as useful as its calibration. In the salt test, the device stands for at least eight hours alongside a saturated solution of table salt in a tightly sealed container, where the air settles at around 75 per cent humidity; whatever the device reads instead is its offset, which you account for going forward. In the humidor the target range is 65 to 72 per cent.
