Humidor
A container with regulated humidity in which cigars are stored and continue to age.
The classic humidor is a wooden box lined with Spanish cedar, which buffers moisture; an airtight plastic container with reliable regulation works equally well. The aim is a constant climate of 65 to 72 per cent relative humidity at around 18 to 21 degrees — maintained by humidifiers and monitored with a calibrated hygrometer. Properly managed, the humidor is more than a storage space: inside it, cigars continue to develop over the years — see box ageing.
