Wrapper
The outermost leaf of the cigar — flawless, silky, and a perceptible contributor to the flavour.
The wrapper (Spanish “capa”) envelops the cigar in a tight spiral and is its calling card: only the most beautiful and even leaves qualify. It contributes noticeably to the aroma — more so in slender formats than in thick ones — and its colour, from Claro through Colorado to Oscuro, reveals something about cultivation and ageing. Beneath it lie the binder and the filler.
