Cabinet
A plain cedar box with a sliding lid in which cigars are stored and aged in loose bundles.
The classic cabinet is an unlacquered cedar box with a sliding lid; Cuban 50-count cabinets traditionally bundle the cigars with a ribbon into a half-wheel, the “media rueda.” The cigars lie directly in the wood without cellophane, and the cedar buffers moisture while imparting its scent to the tobacco. The loose arrangement and bare cedar are considered particularly conducive to box ageing — aficionados with a long horizon therefore often reach for cabinet formats.
