Amatista
A historic glass jar holding typically 50 cigars, sealed airtight and marketed as "factory fresh".
Around 1900, H. Upmann began packing cigars in heavy glass jars of 25 or 50 — lined with Spanish cedar, clamped shut with metal clips and promoted as “factory fresh”. The name (Spanish for amethyst) passed from the cigar originally packed this way to the jar itself. The format enjoyed its heyday in the 1950s and 1960s; today it has all but disappeared, and well-preserved Amatista jars are sought-after collectors’ pieces.
