Burn

The burning behaviour of a cigar — how evenly and at what pace it combusts.

A good burn shows itself in a straight ember line and firm, even ash. Whether a cigar burns cleanly is decided long before it is lit: during the construction of the bunch, the tobacco blend, and storage in the humidor. If the ember runs away on one side, targeted re-lighting usually helps — common causes are overly damp storage or hasty, uneven lighting at the foot.
