El Loco
El Loco — “the madman” — is a collaborative project between ADV & McKay Cigars Co. and Mexican tobacco patriarch Alejandro Turrent. The cigars are produced at his Tabacalera in the San Andrés valley; both wrapper and binder are drawn from the Mexican Criollo 98 variety, while the filler combines Nicaraguan and Mexican tobaccos.
The line comprises two formats whose names carry a knowing wink: La Viuda, the widow, as a Pyramide — and El Viudo, the widower, as a Robusto. The motif refers to the Día de los Muertos, the Mexican Day of the Dead on 2 November, whose imagery also shapes the design of the cigars.
El Loco thus carries the storytelling spirit of the parent brand ADVentura into a new terroir: less seafaring, more Mexican folklore — and on the tobacco side, a showcase for what the San Andrés valley can do beyond its role as a pure wrapper exporter.
