Casa Turrent
Since 1880 the Turrent family has grown tobacco in the San Andrés valley in the Mexican state of Veracruz — over five generations this has grown into one of the largest tobacco producers in North America and Mexico’s most important raw-tobacco exporter. The celebrated San Andrés wrapper, indispensable to modern Maduro culture, originates to a large extent from Turrent fields.
With Casa Turrent the family steps forward under its own name: under the direction of Alberto Turrent and his son Alejandro, cigars are produced in the valley that present Mexican tobacco not as an ingredient but as the protagonist — often as a Puro grown entirely on their own land. In doing so, the family has made a significant contribution to revising the long-derided reputation of Mexican cigars.
Two lines define the range. The Serie 1880, named after the founding year of the family business, is considered by the house its most ambitious project by Alejandro Turrent, and appears in an unusually broad array of wrapper variants for a single line — from Claro through Colorado and Rosado to Oscuro and Maduro; in effect the same cigar can be tasted across the entire colour spectrum of the wrapper. The Serie Origenes brings together four blends in the Robusto Extra format, named after places in the family history: Miami, Caribe, Nicaragua and San Andrés.
Casa Turrent thus represents a rare constellation: a brand whose family controls the entire chain from seed to finished cigar within their own valley.
